Quartz (Prase) with Hematite

Aesthetic cluster of lustrous and translucent, green Quartz "prase" from Serifos Island, Greece. Large crystals up to 4.5 cm, as well as smaller ones, comprise the clusters in very aesthetic fashion. This is a showy and complete all around, with just one termination missing. There are Hematite clusters to 6 mm on the Quartz, which add a good deal of visual and mineral interest to this small-cabinet piece. Old classics, these were mined in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and again recently, from a skarn on the island of Serifos, Greece, and are among the most unusual and fascinating included Quartz crystals of their kind. Note: Prase from Serifos is quartz colored green by inclusions of fibrous actinolite or crossite, not hedenbergite (Hyrsl and Niedermayr, 2003; see also Klemme et al., 2018).
