Quartz (polished sphere) with Rutile and NEGATIVE CRYSTAL inclusions

Item Description

A very cool polished sphere of slightly smoky colored Quartz, weighing 34.64 grams (173.2 carats) featuring acicular golden crystals of Rutile, but the most interesting aspect of the piece is that it hosts a few distinct doubly-terminated negative crystals of Quartz which are frozen inside. Essentially, you have crystallized Quartz that formed INSIDE of a larger section of Quartz, which is fairly rare in nature. When the piece is backlit, the negative crystals looks beautiful. I can't remember having a polished piece quite like this, and it's very hard to get the full scope of it even in a video. You have to see it in person.
From the collection of the beloved mineral dealer and collector Rock H. Currier (1940-2015) who was the long-time owner of Jewel Tunnel Imports (named after the large open vugs in basalt in India which were often filled with crystals). Collection #RHC6280. Rock travelled the world in search of mineral specimens, and built and impressive collection over his lifetime. He was one of the more colorful and unforgettable figures in the mineral world.
