Item Description

Here we have a showy and three-dimensional specimen from the famed Stari Trg Mine in Kosovo featuring sharp, well-formed, lustrous, prismatic crystals of Quartz measuring up to 6 mm, sitting atop a notably sculptural and curved matrix coated by sparkling golden to tan colored micro Siderite rhombs. The Quartz crystals range from virtually transparent to translucent. The piece is crystallized on a large percentage of the surface, and there is only one point of attachment I can find on one end. Hard to convey in the video, but the overall form of the piece is really eye-catching and unique.
This famous mine is the most productive locality in the entire country. Early mining dates back at least 700 years, and the locality is still active today after being shut down during war in Kosovo in the late 1990s. The minerals that you'll see from this well-known locale are quite similar to orebody specimens from various mines in Peru, the San Juan Mountains of Colorado, or Dalnegorsk, Russia.
