Quartz on Petrified Wood (approx 35 million years old)

Item Description

This piece is an interesting novelty that we found at the Tucson Show this year (2019). We picked up a handful of these attractive an unusual specimens from this open pit locality in Zwenkau, a town in the Leipzig District of Saxony. This thumbnail sized specimen features sparkling, lustrous, sharp, translucent crystals of Quartz partially covering a thin piece of reddish-brown petrified wood matrix. We were told that the piece was dated to 35 million years ago. A really cool esoteric specimen that would make a nice addition to a thumbnail suite, or a collection or European minerals or even fossil / mineral combinations.
