Item Description
Clay inclusions, not hematite color this rare style of quartz called Jacinto de Compostela. Two types are found: 1. Isolated biterminated crystals, 2. hedgehog-like spheroidal aggregates. Both characteristically occur as "floaters" embedded in marl, or as inclusions in gypsum masses or, less commonly, aragonite crystals (MINDAT). This RARE and striking large example has lustrous orange-red jasper matrix. The impressive hedge-hog nodules are composed of scintillating rust-red quartz crystals and the striking oval nodule on the end is 4.5 cm. This outstanding large matrix piece is from a well-known Spanish locale for the species. Ex Raul Sanabia Collection.
