Item Description
A beautiful cabinet sized display specimen from the famous Mt Ida locality in Arkansas featuring a diverging pair of sharp, lustrous, gemmy, colorless, hexagonal prisms, free of matrix. The backs of the crystals are actually re-crystallized ("re-healed"), making this nearly a complete "floater" specimen. There is a bit of attached styrofoam on the back, where it was presumably glued to a base at one point in time. An excellent example of these well-known, world-class Quartz specimens. This piece is from the collection of Allen Heyl, the well-known geologist from Colorado / Pennsylvania and the namesake for the Turquoise group species, Aheylite.
