Item Description

Siglo XX is one of the most important Bolivian localities in this history of this country for the diversity of minerals and the quantity of specimens produced for over a century. It is the type locality for many "best in the world" species, and it even produces some amazing specimens of common species like Quartz. The Japan-Law twin Quartz specimens from the Siglo XX Mine are among the finest examples of this beloved habit from anywhere in the world. They are not commonly seen on the market, but I've seen some killers from this locality over the years. This particular piece is without question one of the best examples of this material that we've had to offer from this historic mine. The piece features, not one, not two, not three, but FOUR distinct, separate fine quality Japan-Law twins of Quartz, the largest measuring up to 3.7 cm across which are surrounded by dozens of fine quality narrow hexagonal prisms of Quartz. All of the crystals are colorless and are incredibly sharp, very-well-formed and highly lustrous. Many of the Quartz crystals are WATER CLEAR, and I have to say that the photos simply do not do the piece justice. It's BETTER IN PERSON and as I said, one of the most impressive examples of the material that I've seen from Siglo XX. The best part for me is that virtually every Quartz crystal (including all four twins) are terminated and undamaged. It's difficult to convey the quality and genuine rarity of a piece like this, because most people just see a colorless Quartz specimen, but it's so much more than that. I've been viewing / buying / selling Bolivian minerals for a couple decades now, and this piece is certainly the kind of piece that I could see in any serious mineral collection, as there are few to compare it to in terms of quality, aesthetics and the fact that there are MULTIPLE TWINS on the SAME SPECIMEN! Priced in the inventory at $3,500.
