Item Description
Please note: The label accompanying this specimen states that it is from a place called "Funameguri Go" on Naru Island, but I cannot find a listing for this specific locale in any database. If anybody out there has information as to this specific locality, please let us know. With that said, this piece is a wonderful example of the well-known Japan-law twins of Quartz from Naru Island with the classic, flattened tabular habit and excellent textbook twinning. Often the twins from this locality are "closed", showing a more tight intergrowth between the crystals, and like the majority of the pieces seen from Naru Island, it is a loose single free of matrix. The piece is very sharp and well-formed along with being notably gemmy and colorless. It's important to note that these specimens are often labeled as the "type locality" for Japan-law twins, but this is incorrect. It's only their presence on the market that led to certain dealers and collectors believing they were from the first locality to produce the iconic twins. From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. Lemanski Jr. of Browns Mills, New Jersey (https://www.mindat.org/user-461.html). Collection # Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
