Quartz (Japan-Law Twin)

Quartz is an incredibly diverse species, found in a wide range of colors, styles and habits. It's safe to say that the most well-known twinning habit for the species is the Japan-law where the crystals form "butterfly" or "v"-shaped twins that meet at a precise angle of 84°33. King County, Washington is one of the great Quartz specimens producing areas in the United States, but Japan-law twins are not terribly common, especially matrix pieces like this one, as good percentage of these twins are loose, off matrix. A well-formed, sharp, lustrous, colorless, gemmy Japan-law twin measuring 7.0 cm across, sits proudly atop a matrix comprising single hexagonal prisms. A bit of golden iron inclusions, gives an added touch of color the piece. The twin itself is in superb condition, but some of the smaller underlying Quartz crystals are broken. Additionally, the piece is NOT repaired, though it has been stabilized, but to find an un-repaired example like this is a big deal. If you're a Quartz collector, or if you specifically collect minerals from King County, this is something that is rarely seen on the market in this size and quality. Valued $5,000.
