Item Description
Myrickite is a RARE variety of Chalcedony, a variety of Quartz. It is a local California name for chalcedony included with red Cinnabar (MINDAT). Part of the striking, sculptural large plate is covered with dramatic swirls of rich red cinnabar and black to gray groundmass. The rest of the plate is covered with a layer of orange-red cinnabar. The side view highlights the striking layering of the cinnabar and groundmass. This exotic California rarity is from the well-known extinct open-cast Au-Ag-Pb-Hg-Sb McLaughlin Mine, best known for stibnite specimens. Old material!
