Item Description
The Idarado Mine (which gets is name from the combination of the Idaho based Sunshine Mining Company and Newmont Mining in Colorado {IDA-ho + coloRADO = IDARADO}) is one of the great ore producers in all of the Colorado and the United States for that matter. It served as a major source of base metals that were meant to help with the war effort during WWII. Along with the excellent specimens of sulfides and Calcite, the Idarado Mine was the source of some of the finest Quartz specimens from any locality in Colorado. This superb large cabinet display piece is loaded with crystallized "mounds" of brilliant, sparkling, milky white Quartz crystals free of matrix. One could say that the piece resembles a landscape of snow-covered rolling hills, somewhat similar to the mountains in which the piece was found. The size is impressive, but what really makes the piece special is the fact that it's essentially damage free, with the exception of the periphery where it was removed from the pocket wall. When you flip the piece over, you can see the original hexagonal crystal formations, which have been overgrown by additional depositions of white / colorless Quartz in layers or "bands" to create this gorgeous large museum quality piece. Very hard to find on the market today, as the mine has been closed for over 40 years. If you collect Quartz, Colorado minerals or just love big showy large cabinets, don't miss out on this one. Priced in the inventory at $4,000. PLEASE NOTE: This piece is large and somewhat heavy (it weighs 1,367 grams) and it will require an additional shipping charge. Please keep this in mind when bidding and feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
