Quartz (''Herkimer-Style'' Quartz) with negative crystal inclusion!

These classic and world-famous Quartz crystals are truly some of the most easily recognizable examples of the species in the world. Their distinctive characteristic form and optic internal clarity makes them truly special. These piece for years were referred to as "Herkimer Diamonds", but mindat.org defines them simply as "Herkimer-Style" Quartz. This piece features a single doubly-terminated crystal of light smoky colored, VERY gemmy, sharp, highly lustrous, Quartz, but what makes this one special is that it features a negative crystal inclusion. The crystal lies on the back edge of the specimen, completely frozen inside the larger overall crystal, and looking closely, there APPEARS to be a second partial negative crystal next to it. Additionally, there is an inclusions that is more centered in the crystal that we thought could be a negative crystal, but it might be simply an amorphous fluid inclusion. The first photo really illustrates the negative crystal best, but it was DIFFICULT to photograph and looks great in person. Minor black Bitumen/hydrocarbon inclusions can be seen as well. A great piece of this quintessential material from upstate New York.
