Item Description
A beautiful piece of the famous "Herkimer Diamonds" from upstate New York. This specimen is comprised of four Quartz crystals aggregated such that two are aligned end-to-end and cemented at the juncture by two additional, unoriented crystals. The top of one of the smaller central Quartz crystals is incomplete, with a separation mark where it was intergrown with another Quartz at one point in time. The larger crystals on the end are WATER CLEAR, and show textbook hexagonal faces. Most of these specimens are repaired, but after looking at this one closely, I feel like it might NOT be repaired because I can't find any evidence of glue or any "gaps" between the crystals. A really attractive and special example of these world-famous Quartz specimens. From the collection of Chester ("Chet") S. Lemanski Jr. of Browns Mills, New Jersey (https://www.mindat.org/user-461.html). Collection #2632CL. Chet was born 1947 in started collecting minerals circa 1957. He worked briefly as a drill runner at the famous Sterling Mine, in Ogdensburg, New Jersey and from 1987 to 1990 he helped convert the mine into a public access mining museum. He has held the role of treasurer, vice president and president of the Franklin-Ogdensburg Mineralogical Society (FOMS), and has been a board member and vice president of the Franklin Mineral Museum. The rare copper arsenate, Lemanskiite was named in his honor in 1999.
