Quartz - "Herkimer diamond" style

A sharp, 8.2 cm, doubly terminated "Herkimer-style" quartz crystal dominates this sculptural, excellent and uncommon 360-degree cluster of intergrown quartz crystals from this well-known Spanish fluorite mine. The secondary "diamond" is 5.8 cm long and is also doubly terminated. The crystals are very glassy, lustrous and are transparent to translucent. A BONUS is the hard-to-see, small 1 mm movable bubble visible in the front of the large crystal within the red circle. HUGE FOR THIS LOCALITY! The attached limestone matrix and matrix flecks included in the crystals are fine accessories and complements. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only a trivial amount of contacting. Mined in 2005. Ex Raul Sanabria Orellana Collection, a well-known Spanish collector and author. He is the co-author of the excellent recent 2024 Mineralogical Record Berbes, Spain article in Vol 55, No 1 and co-author of the 2021 Mineralogical Record article on the Aliva Mining District, Spain Vol. 52, No. 4.
