An uncommon matrix "Herkimer diamond" quartz specimen from the famous locality, with gem crysatsl arranged like a flower on a rare matrix! Most of these crystals are found as singles, off matrix, either detatched from matrix underground over time, or during the mining extraction process, so finding a large cluster like this still on matrix (and an aesthetic one at that!) is an unusual treat. It is an extraordinarily difficult limestone to break up, which is why most such specimens shatter and never come out in one piece. This is a miracle. A perfect cluster of quartz crystals, to 1.7 cm, are set on the matrix lined with sparkly drusy quartz that looks like sugar and actually makes the whole thing look pretty, instead of just a matrix of gray rock. The smaller crystals add character to this very aethetic piece. Uncommon and wonderful example of this classic material. Matrix specimens of this size and quality are usually valued $1000-2000 - often priced higher the closer you are to the location, where folks know how difficult it is to obtain.
