Quartz (Herkimer Diamond)

Item Description

Razor sharp "Herkimer style" clear Quartz crystal sitting on a Dolomite matrix from Montgomery County, New York. It is fairly uncommon for these crystals, especially a 5 cm large crystal, to remain attached to matrix. While the exterior faces are all glass smooth, the details and intrigue for this specimen are in the internal features. The water clear transparency shows a once skeletal Quartz crystal below the surface. There are numerous fluid inclusions, although no moving bubbles spotted, however there appears to be some solid white crystalline Quartz material that does move within the crystal. There are also a myriad of light refracting surfaces producing multitudes of "rainbows" throughout. The piece is in near pristine condition.
