Quartz gwindel with Chlorite (Belsky Coll.)

Item Description

A classic and showy Alpine smoky quartz gwindel from Switzerland. The color is very light smoky to colorless and is strikingly different due to coating and etching of the crystal faces by green chlorite. The crystal does have extreme transparency and high luster. Technically this is a "half open" gwindel, with one termination edge having comb-like serrations. It is also, obviously, a twisted quartz, or gwindel by the traditional term for them. The twist is obvious and dramatic. The contrast of both an open and closed side terminations is unique. The quartz point on the lower left is a super accent. The frontal view is nearly pristine, with only very trivial edgewear on one side. Most of the back is contacted, but has very little damage, per se. The color, transparency and luster on this textbook crystal is excellent. Ex Howard Belsky Collection. A fine gwindel from his extensive Alpine quartz collection. MUCH BETTER IN PERSON. This is a small but subtle Alpine classic, and would be hard to replicate for its combination of qualities.
