Item Description
A cool specimen from this fairly well-known roadcut locality where geodes are extracted from solid limestone, and then cracked open to reveal the crystals inside. This piece is lined with hundreds of little pale lilac colored Quartz crystals, which play host to beautiful, gemmy, tabular "sword"-shaped crystals of soft golden Baryte measuring up to 1.0 cm. These are not commonly seen on the market today, and it's a very worthwhile piece for any fans of the Midwest United States. From the collection of Richard ("Dick") Philip Hauck formerly of Bloomfield, New Jersey and now a resident of Franklin, New Jersey. Dick is an avid collector of minerals, books, and mining memorabilia, along with being an accomplished author in the mineral world. Arguably, his greatest claim to fame is being the co-founder of the Sterling Hill Mining Museum in Ogdensburg, NJ. Dick purchased the land on which the Sterling Hill Mine resides in 1988, and the museum has been running strong since.
