Item Description

If you've ever been to the Munich Show or Sainte Marie, or various European shows, you have probably seen these Quartz geodes offered for sale. They come from a giant phosphate pit in the Sahara Desert - one of the largest of its kind in the world. This piece is a cracked geode containing very pale lilac colored Quartz crystal formations, some of which almost look stalactitic, while others have more of a spherical appearance. The piece is also fluorescent (a bright yellow color), which isn't common for Quartz. Honestly, the Quartz does not really fluoresce, but rather the cryptocrystalline material (Chalcedony) below the Quartz seems to be what is glowing under the UV light. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
