Quartz (GEM quality) with Dolomite (ex Kay Robertson Collection)

Item Description

A classic specimen of Quartz from the famous Simplon Tunnel in Switzerland. The piece hosts a predominant, sharp, lustrous GEM quality, colorless Quartz crystal measuring 3.4 cm flaring out of additional Quartz crystal matrix with minor associated Dolomite according to the label (the word Muscovite was previously crossed out). The main crystal is in excellent condition and shows what I believe to be a Ticino (Tessin) habit. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#1948). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
