Item Description

The San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado are filled with many Quartz localities. Various spots in San Juan County have produced a myriad of interesting crystal habits for Quartz. This piece is only specimen I've seen from Molas pass, which lies south of Silverton, along the Million Dollar Highway (U.S. Highway 550). The piece is a beautiful semi-elestial group composed of several sharp, lustrous, well-formed, white/colorless hexagonal prisms, free of matrix. The bottom of the piece detached from the pocket at some point and completely re-crystallized ("re-healed"), making it a "floater" as it's completely crystallized all around. The elegant, larger than average size and the rare locality make it a very desirable Quartz specimen for any fan of the species of minerals of Colorado. You're not likely to see another like from Molas Pass on the market, so don't miss out.
