Item Description
The Quartz specimens from various localities in the South Waziristan District of Pakistan are quite well-known these days as some of the finest examples of what are called "Fadens" in the mineral world. The term "Faden" comes from the German word for string, as these Quartz specimen will feature small thread-like internal lines, which typically follow the direction of the Quartz crystals. These "Fadens" are said to have either formed from small stress fractures inside the Quartz crystals that form during tectonic activity, leaving small "scars" internally, or they are formed from small inclusions of a "Byssolite"-like mineral. This piece is a good quality group with sharp, lustrous, gemmy, colorless, tabular and prismatic Quartz crystals with a distinct "Faden", running the length of the piece. Good quality all around, and very showy. From the dealer stock of Herb Obodda.
