Quartz (Faden)

A truly elegant example of the faden variety of quartz, where a fuzzy "line" goes through the middle and seems to act as a nucleus for growth out from each side. It is a really strange growth style for quartz, and you can google it to learn about it, but truth be told we are still not really entirely sure how and why they form. In any case, this is a perfectly balanced specimen, with a 4.2 cm tall cluster perched perfectly upright....and you rarely get both of these statements about the same specimen. It is an excellent example in the size class, with unusually well defined faden line within. It was purchased in Munich by Gabriel Risse from the source, from a large lot imported by Marcus Budil some years ago. They considered it truly exceptional for the size, as do we.
