Item Description
An eye-catching display specimen of Quartz from the famous Mineral Farm locality above Ouray, Colorado. This piece features many very sharp, rather lustrous, well-formed, hexagonal crystals of milky white Quartz with well-defined pyramidal terminations and gorgeous secondary overgrowths of tiny Quartz crystals along the prism faces, very similar to the famous "Cactus Quartz" specimens from South Africa. Nearly every crystal is pristine, though a few contacts can be seen. The largest composite Quartz crystal on the side of the specimen measures 2.7 cm long. A really good quality and showy specimen of this beloved material from the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. From the collection of Gary Weaver (1944-2019), an electrical engineer who worked for Hughes Aircraft in California. After retiring to Prescott, Arizona in the early 2000s, Gary rekindled his childhood love of minerals, amassing a collection of roughly 2000 specimens, focusing on localities in which he and his wife had lived or visited (Mexico, Peru and the western / southwestern United States).
