Item Description
A BIG and stout Quartz group from the famous Camp Bird Mine in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. This locality was one of the most famous Gold producers in the history of the United States. The mine produced about 1.5 million troy ounces of gold, and 4 million troy ounces of silver, from 1896 to 1990. At today's prices, the Camp Bird's production would be worth over US 1.5 billion dollars. Gold aside, this mine was an producer of fine display specimens including some of the best crystallized sulfides and Quartz specimens from Colorado. This piece is an excellent, sharp, lustrous, multi-terminated, snow-white to colorless, traslucent group with a slight coating of white Calcite(?) on one side. The piece is in superb condition and really displays well from all sides. Pieces of this size and quality are nearly impossible to obtain these days, and they're only found in old collections. From the collection of Brian Kosnar. Valued at $1500.
