Item Description

The Idarado mine is most famous for it's Manganoan Calcite specimens, but it also produced some of the finest and most well-known Quartz specimens from anywhere in Colorado. This specimen is a beautiful display specimen of well-known "milky" Quartz featuring almost "sugary" drusy sparkling crystals forming fairly thick / stout groups. The piece may actually be Quartz overgrowing Calcite, but there certainly are multiple generations of deposition taking place as you can see notable "banding" on the underside, where it grew in layers. The piece is in great shape overall. The Quartz crystals are translucent when backlit, and the overall aesthetics of the piece make it a very good display specimen of this truly classic San Juan material.
