Item Description
An extremely rare and important Swiss quartz specimen, probably from the St. Gotthard Highway Tunnel. Hollow, casted inclusions of former anhydrite blades are dramatically encased in a water-clear, sharply terminated quartz crystal with nifty preferentially coated faces by sparkly chlorite. One of the hollow tubes breaches the edge of a termination face. Complete all-around and nearly pristine, with only a trivial bit of termination and edge wear. Two of the prism faces are contacted, but only trivial bruising is noted. Anhydrite is very rare from Uri and this is a striking and rare included specimen from the Giancarlo Fioravanti Collection. It was obtained in a trade with Modena Mineralogical Museum in 1978. The highway tunnel opened in 1980. Value of such a rarity???
