Item Description

A gorgeous old-time Quartz specimen from the lesser known Willis Mine in Arkansas. The piece literally came to us with a tiny scrap of tissue paper in the box in with faded writing that only said "Willis" on it. Unfortunately, the paper was in such poor condition, that it literally crumbled apart as we removed it from the box, but the locality is legit. This piece is a fine quality, sharp, lustrous, GEMMY, colorless, doubly-terminated thick hexagonal prism of Quartz with no attached matrix. The back of the crystal shows an indention / separation mark where another Quartz crystal once grew, but the piece actually healed ("re-healed"), making it essentially fully crystallized all around. There is very little damage, only a few small imperfections that I can see. Please do not mistake the area on one of the terminations that appears to be broken, it's completely crystallized, and is actually a layered growth which you can clearly see with a loupe. A very attractive and I think significant Quartz crystal from a Mine where few people have good representation in their collections. From the collection of Henry de Linde (March 21, 1923 – April 4, 2019) of Hot Spring, Arkansas. Henry was one of the most prominent figures in the history of Arkansas mining and mineral collecting. Along with being a miner, mineral collector and an amateur mineralogist, de Linde was one of the founders of the Coon Creek Association mineral club. He was the owner of several key localities in Arkansas including the Diamond Jo Quarry (on the south rim of Magnet Cove), the type locality for Delindeite, which was named in his honor in 1987.
