Item Description

A classic specimen of the famous and gorgeous specimens of Quartz coating Chrysocolla from the Live Oak Pit at the Inspiration Mine, near Globe, Arizona. These specimens are sometimes referred to as "gem silica", but that term is typically used to describe Quartz / Chalcedony that contains inclusions of Chrysocolla, not a coating of one over the other. With that said, these specimens are wildly popular among minerals collectors, and also in the gem / jewelry world, as they made for some unique polished material. This particular piece features an open / exposed vein or vug of beautiful blue-green Chrysocolla covered with sparkly microcrystals Quartz that light up the surface. The Chrysocolla formed in spherical groups, so you can see tiny sugar spheres all over the inner portion of the specimen. Classic material from decades ago, and very hard to find on the market today.
