Item Description
A less commonly seen Quartz specimen from the Herodsfoot Mine in Cornwall. Most collectors are quite familiar the old classic "cogwheel" Bournonites that date back to the 1800s, but you don't see a lot of Quartz specimens from this mine. A handful of sharp, well-formed, prismatic, white / milky Quartz crystals measuring up to 5.1 cm long free of matrix. The outer edges show separation marks where they were most likely intergrown with additional Quartz crystals at some point, but these areas actually expose a layer beneath that gives the piece a two-tone contrast with the surface faces. Ex Kay Robertson Collection. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
