Item Description

A classic banded Agate specimen from the world famous locality at Idar-Oberstein. This renowned gem and gem carving producing district was first famous for its eye-catching Agates and Agate carving there has a long tradition which continues to this day. This polished specimen is a superb example of the classic old Idar-Oberstein Agates featuring disticnt red, pink, white and silvery banding that is often observed from the district. OLD material, very hard to find on the market today, and certainly worth picking up for the sheer visceral beauty and historic significange. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#7797). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Velt" November-December 2017).
