Quartz "casts" after Anhydrite (ex Gary Weaver Collection)

Item Description

This is a fantastic and showy display specimen from the lesser known Mineral Farm locality just south/southwest of Ouray, Colorado. This piece features several attractive tabular epimorphs of "sugary" Quartz replacing Anhydrite measuring up to 3.0 cm across. The piece has excellent aesthetics and is very eye-catching. No damage that I can see outside of the base of the specimen where it was removed from the pocket wall. The piece displays beautifully on its own with a base or clay. PLEASE NOTE: For many years people have written that these epimorphs / perimorphs / "casts" were replacements of Quartz after Barite. It was mentioned on mindat.org that "Dr. Virgil Lueth, New Mexico Tech, concludes from studies that these and all San Juan quartz epimorphs apparently after barite are in fact after anhydrite". From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California.
