Item Description
These are some of the most distinctive, unusual and "hard to describe" specimens you'll find from any locality. I've seen these crystals labeled as "Interference Quartz" or simply "Interference Crystals", which is a fairly appropriate description of what they truly are. Essentially these pieces formed as an intergrowth of prismatic Quartz crystals and thin, platy Calcite crystals together at the same time. The Calcite "blades" were essentially sticking out of the Quartz crystals, but something came along which dissolved the Calcites away, leaving the impressions / indentations of the former crystals in the Quartz. The result was many thin, distinct, geometric lines in the remaining Quartz crystal, that some might call "striations", but I think they are best described as "casts", because the original shape of the Calcite is now preserved in the Quartz itself. No matter what you call them, they're really cool, and certainly unlike any other Quartz specimens I've seen. This piece is a great example of this special crystals, and this one has the added bonus of featuring a bit of gentle green "Chlorite" in spots, to give it a bit of added color. Don't miss out on this one, as we don't have another to offer in the auctions.
