Quartz cast after Fluorite with Sphalerite

A true surprise in the amazing diverse collection of Hefendehl! Impressive large Quartz epimorph after Fluorite specimen from this well known lead-zinc-fluorite mine in Alston Moor, Cumbria, England. The thin, sparkling white microcrystalline Quartz had coated what was a cluster of Fluorite crystals, up to 1.8 cm in size, while preserving the shape of the original Flourite's intergrown cubic form. Once the Flourite dissolved, all that was left was this spectacular glistening Quartz epimorph. The final Quartz epimorph has a sprinkling of tiny black Sphalerite crystals. Notice these are on both the positive and negative sides of the epimorph. This piece is just really cool and highly unusual. A definite oddity that is a fascinating specimen with a lot of visual impact as well as a unique collection piece appealing to both Quartz and Fluorite collectors. Ex. Kurt Hefendehl Collection.
