Item Description
The Little Giant Basin in San Juan County has produced some very attractive Quartz specimens over the years. They are especially desirable for collectors due to the fact that they form in interesting habit, no just your typical hexagonal prisms. This piece is an excellent miniature featuring several white/colorless, sharp, lustrous crystals measuring up to 3.3 cm long sitting on a thin layer of matrix. The main crystal shows a rarely seen "reverse scepter" habit with a small crystallized point at the top, and a couple of the smaller secondary crystals also feature tiny "reverse scepters" as well. You can see the main crystal is very gemmy at the top portion and actually features an attractive floating inclusion that almost gives the impression of a "phantom". The piece is virtually undamaged, save maybe one or two secondary crystals. This particular piece was collected by San Juan collector, Mark Mahlum in the summer of 2006, and is a great example of the type of specimens that can be found in the Little Giant Basin. From the collection of Gary Weaver of Prescott, Arizona (1944-2019). Gary was an electrical engineer who worked for many years for Hughes Aircraft in California.
