Quartz and Epidote, with Hematite

Schakalskruppe Farm in Namibia is known for its distinctive Quartz and Epidote combinations, and even among those specimens this small-cabinet piece stands out for several reasons. Most Quartz from here has a characteristic yellow hue that is uniform and sharp, yet these have a very pale hue and tend more towards colorless. This stands out for the location. Also unusual, and cool for anywhere, is the band of doubly-terminated, parallel Quartz crystals to 2.1 cm that ring the bottom of the presentation side. There are also sharp Hematite phantoms within the larger Quartz crystals that comprise the core of the piece, and these phantoms would be much less visible had these crystals possessed the locality's strong yellow tint. Completing the combination are the lustrous, prismatic, deep-green Epidotes intergrown along the surfaces of the Quartz. Some of the Epidotes are even well-terminated. Combined, this creates a unique and quality specimen from an unusual place.
