Item Description

Here we have a beautiful crystal of Amethystine Quartz from Little Giant Basin in San Juan County, Colorado, which has produced some very attractive Quartz specimens over the years. These pieces are especially desirable for collectors due to the fact that they form in interesting habits, not just your typical hexagonal prisms. This piece is a sharp, lustrous, gemmy crystal with a very soft lavender hue showing pronounced skeletal or "hoppered" growth (sometimes referred to as "Fenster" habit crystals), free of matrix. The piece is complete all around, save the base where it was detached from the pocket wall, and looks beautiful up close. A really attractive example of these iconic Quartz crystals from southwestern Colorado.
This piece was collected by Robert Stoufer 2006.
