Item Description
Pyrrhotite is a superb crystallized species for which we get few truly fine, high-level thumbnail sized specimens compared to the larger examples. This one is iconic for the shape, and the color; and combine this with the perfect sizing and association with contrasting black sphalerite to make it a killer thumbnail specimen. The crystal is a hexagonal mirror-like and metallic crystal with just the perfect accent of a sharp jet black sphalerite, itself topped by much smaller quartz crystals for extra contrasts. From: Rob Lavinsky who had purchased in 2003 from Pavel Bantsekov, a mineral dealer from Prague, Czech Republic (at the Denver CO Mineral Show). This was the time they were coming out, and yet so few thumbnails of quality were to be had. Everybody wanted big and heavy large pieces of these amazing Dalnegorsk minerals, that even the miners did not keep much in the way of thumbnails, let alone specimens with such aesthetics.
