Item Description

The Blue Bell Mine of British Columbia was a major lead-zinc producer in the province until its closing in 1971. We have seen some pyromorphite from here but this is the first yrrhotite I have personally seen from the locality. This rare and very showy specimen features two, intergrown, stacked clusters of lustrous, bronzy-brown, pseudo-hexagonal plates of pyrrhotite. There is an excellent article on this noted locale in the January-February, 1977 issue of the Mineralogical Record. "The specimen quality rivals other well-known localities such as Santa Eulalia, Mexico and Trepca, Yugoslavia." This choice piece probably dates to the late 1950s to early 60s. Ex Dennis Mullane Collection and seldom on the market.
