Item Description

When you see a pyrrhotite these days, you pretty much assume it is from Russia or Mexico. But this is an old and uncommon in this large style Brazilian one from a famous working gold mine believe it or not. It was donated by a Brazilian dealer to the University of Arizona. This is a striking, excellent, massive, blocky, hexagonal crystal with typical layering, classic bronzey luster and a scattered rust-red tint. The film label indicates that the piece was on display in the Geology Museum. This is exceptionally rare, old material and seldom seen on the market. Valued $400-500
