Item Description
The Pyroxmangite specimens from the Morro da Mina Mine are the largest and arguably finest crystallized examples of the species extant. This piece is a fantastic thumbnail featuring a sharp, lustrous, translucent, rich reddish-pink colored partial crystal of Pyroxmangite associated with the rare brownish-black manganese iron magnesium silicate Neotocite. The Pyroxmangite has some well-defined faces, but it is contacted, so it's not a complete crystal. For the color and the rare association of Neotocite, this is a very attractive thumbnail of this classic fine quality material. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#12728). Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017).
