Item Description

This locality is known for its Manganese minerals, including some of the best crystals of Pyroxmangite in the world. The often thick, somewhat blocky, wedge-shaped crystals with their strong reddish-pink color and sharp, lustrous faces make them some of the most impressive examples of the species exant. This set features a typical Pyroxmangite crystal measuring 5.6 cm sitting on host rock matrix. The top of the crystal is contacted, but it does have many sharp, lustrous well-formed crystal faces. The "Freeform" cut gem is a great example of how fine the Pyroxmangites can get from this locality. This stone has an electric reddish-pink color with excellent clarity! Both parts are great contributors to this rare gem / mineral rough and cut set, and should be appreciated as such. Valued at $1600.
