Item Description

An exceptional, old-time, combination specimen from the historic Franklin Mining District. Sharp, moderately lustrous, dark gray, pyroxene crystals to 2.1 cm are aesthetically attached to both sides of a showy cluster of large, dodecahedral, moderately lustrous, andradite garnet crystals. The large andradite is 5.0 cm. The pyroxenes are probably augites. Contacting and periphery wear are noted, but this is a significant combination piece from this famous district. This is an old-timer with a CLOTH label glued to the bottom. Franklin was known as Franklin Furnace until incorporation in 1913 so this is an OLD PIECE. Ex Dr. John C. Ward Collection.
