Item Description

Pyrostilpnite is the rare monoclinic dimorph of pyrargyrite, a trigonal mineral. It is VERY VERY rare and only seen in this quality on specimens generally over 100 years old from Chile and Germany. A LARGE and aesthetic arborescent cluster of wine-red, lamellar crystals is aesthetically set on the sulfide and quartz thumbnail matrix. Crystals over 1mm, eye visible, are very hard to obtain, so this is a super-rich piece with a 7 mm spray! Rare in quality and uncommon, probably old-time ore material from the famous mines at St. Andreasberg. Ex Columbia Univesity and Mark Feinglos Collections. Valued $1000-1500.
