Item Description

This is the second specimen in this auction from this small Swedish Fe-Mn mine operated intermittently from 1847-1889 (MINDAT). Pyrophanite is an uncommon member of the Ilmenite Group of Ti oxides and this well-known mine is the Type Locality. Small clusters of glassy, translucent, yellow-orange microcrystals are scattered on the piece. The rich covering of splendent, sparkly, metallic crystals is probably uncommon hematite. Ex American Musuem and Eugene Carmichael Collections. RARE and rarely on the market for this old-time material.
