Item Description

This is a wonderful, richly colored, intense red "Round Brilliant" cut Pyrope Garnet from Tanzania with very slight inclusions. Although red Garnets have been known for thousands of years, Pyrope is somewhat newer as it was discovered in Bohemia in the 1500s, and was highly sought after for its color, used in royal jewelry for a couple hundred years. Pyrope gets its name from the Greek world "pyropos", meaning "fiery-eyed", in reference to the strong red color of the material. A beautiful example of this well-known material.
