Item Description
The beautiful Garnets from the Red Embers Mine in Massachusetts are some of the most distinctive and alluring Garnet specimens from anywhere. In reflected light, the crystals might appear to be black and opaque, which makes them blend in with the dark grey Graphite matrix, but when they are backlit, they show an amazingly rich glowing RED color. This piece is a great example of said material featuring a handful of fairly sharp, trapezohedral crystals measuring up to 1.2 cm across exposed from within the massive Graphite matrix. You can see from the photos that the internal gemminess and wonderfully strong red color are clearly evident on this specimen. No damage that I can see. A wonderful example of these fantastic Garnets. The piece comes with a small black and white photocopied pamphlet detailing the article in Rocks and Minerals written about the locality, along with a card from Jason Baskin, Kyle Baskin and Patrick Murphy, who have been collecting the specimens. If you're a Garnet collector or a fan of minerals from New England, do not miss out on this wonderful and eye-catching cabinet sized piece of this classic material. For reference, the entry on mindat.org for this locality states
