Item Description
This piece is labeled as coming from the Sylvester Mine in Tasmania, but the listing on mindat.org states that this locality is, "Reported as the source for some good Pyromorphites and Hinsdalite, but these most probably come from the Zeehan Queen workings to the north (in the Pyromorphite lode)." With that said, we've changed it to the Zeehan Queen, as all the other Pyromorphites are listed under this locality. The piece is almost completely coated with tiny, sparkling, beautiful olive green colored hexagonal prisms of Pyromorphite on oxidized matrix. The piece almost reminds me of the old classics from the Wheatley Mine in Pennsylvania. You never see these on the market anymore, and this piece is easily 50 years old, if not older. A really cool specimen for any fan of secondary ore minerals or minerals from Australia.
From the worldwide mineral collection of Albert Lewis Kidwell (January 1, 1919 - August 16, 2008). Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974 ( https://www.mindat.org/photo-326405.html ).
