Item Description

Classic, beautiful apple-green, lustrous, translucent, textbook hexagonal pyromorphite barrels, to 5mm, are dramatically festooned on the sculptural large sloping wedge matrix of sulfides covering quartz-rich matrix. Specimens from the old, extinct Pb-Ag-Zn mines of the Mullan area of the well-known Coeur d'Alene District are VERY RARE compared to prolific pyromorphite from the nearby world-famous Bunker Hill Mine. The piece undoubtedly dates to before the 1980s and could be over 100 years old. Lead-silver mining began in 1885 in the District. See the 1982 Mineralogical Record Coeur d'Alene District article in Vol. 13, No. 5. Ex Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. He passed away in 2020. The piece displays very well without aid. A RARE, rich and showy large Idaho pyromorphite. We have not seen comparable for recent sale from this locale.
