Item Description
This fine locality piece from the Mt. Isa mines in Australia is dominated by straw-yellow, moderately lustrous Pyromorphite crystals up to nearly 1 cm. The hexagonal crystals are well-formed, and they all have in interesting texturing to the faces and terminations. From the less well-known Black Star Open Cut, there are an expected few missing terminations near the periphery, but the miniature is showy and aesthetic, and it remains a highly representative example of the species from this uncommon locality. In fact, Black Star specimens are hard to find, if you can find them at all, especially in this quality. This was recently deaccessed from the extensive collection of Bob Reynolds, who cherished both minerals and fossils as he collected. Bob is a prolific author and has had several curating positions in museums.
